Wildlife Watch Events Diary 2007

We have an exciting program of events taking place all over Cheshire this winter. So Why not come along and join Watch and take a closer look at wildlife, have fun and make new friends.

Please book all events except where other wise stated

N.B. Events can be cancelled at short notice due to bad weather. If this occurs we will do our best to inform all those who have booked on to the event.

August

Tuesday 7th August 10.30am – 3pm.
Activity - Seal Watch and rock pooling.
Venue – Hilbre Island, off the coast at West Kirby, Wirral.

Tuesday 21st August 10.00am – 2pm.
Activity - Seal Watch and rock pooling. This trip has always been a popular one for families. The group leaves the slipway at West Kirby at low tide (10.30 am) and walks the 2 miles across the sands to Hilbre Island. Hundreds of seals are hauled out on the sand banks of the River Dee Estuary at this time of year and can be seen clearly with the help of a telescope. Many more swim around to the end of the island where you may get closer to them. The day will include a seaside scavenger hunt, rock pool dipping, bird and seal watching.
Not suitable for children under 5.

Wednesday 22nd August 8.15pm onwards.
Activity – Bat talk and walk. Learn about our native bats. An expert bat worker will take you on a walk around Poynton Pool detecting and identifying bats.
Venue – Poynton Lake near Stockport.

Thursday 30th August 10am – 3pm
Activity – Wildlife activities day at Bickley Hall Farm, the Cheshire Wildlife Trust’s new headquarters. Meet moths; help make a bug hotel, explore the farm, environmental art and games. Bring a packed lunch.

Saturday 1st September 7pm – 9pm.
Activity - Evening batwalk. Learn about our native bats.
Venue - Thurstaton Country Park, Thursaston, Wirral.

Saturday 8th September 8pm onwards.
Activity - Bat talk and walk. Learn about our native bats.
Venue – Marshall’s Arm Nature Reserve, Hartford, Northwich.

Activity – Small mammal trapping. Looking at the behaviour, ecology and identification of small mammals. This event will involve mammal trapping for identification and recording purposes.
