Wild Christmas
Pupils at Broughton Moor School are celebrating this week after one of their
classmates won Cumbria Wildlife Trust's 2007 Christmas Card Competition. Jake
Iceton, eleven produced a skillful design of a hedgehog delivering Christmas

Bittern, marsh harrier, bearded tit and reed warbler are just a few of the
wetland birds that will flock to a new reedbed being created at Cumbria Wildlife
Trust's Foulshaw Moss Nature Reserve. Cumbria's biggest conservation charity
is transforming 17 hectares of farmland into a wet wonderland of common reed,
reed canary grass and yellow iris. More

them. Teaching the next generation about the camouflage used by bugs, the

and countryside education in Cumbria's schools is under threat as grant funding

Wildlife Trust releases new carbon footprint report

Protecting Cumbria's peat bogs and woodlands is not only good for wildlife
but also reduces the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. That's the
message in a new carbon footprint report for Cumbria Wildlife Trust, which
shows that its carbon footprint is minus 3,850 tonnes of carbon dioxide per
year. More

a breath of fresh air at Clints Quarry Nature Reserve (22 August)
Cumbria
Wildlife Trust is celebrating the news that it has been awarded £10,000
from the Big Lottery Fund's Breathing Places grants programme for improvements
to its Clints Quarry Nature Reserve. The money will pay for improvements to
the paths, benches, a bike rack, fencing, information boards as well as essential
management to benefit the wildlife found there. More

celebrates a good grounding of wildlife at Cumbria's schools
(13 August)
Wildlife
is thriving in schools across Cumbria thanks to a team of experts from Cumbria
Wildlife Trust's Grounds for Wildlife project. The Trust is celebrating the
end of the project this month with St Paul's CE Junior School, Barrow in Furness,
Inglewood Community Primary School, Carlisle, St Gregory's Catholic Primary
School, and Ghyllside Primary School, Kendal, among others. More

Wildlife Trust Celebrates 45 Years
(18 May)
Staff at Cumbria Wildlife Trust are celebrating the conservation charity's
45th birthday this month (May). The organisation was formed to protect the
wildlife of Westmorland, Cumberland and Lancashire north of the sands and
was known as The Lake District Naturalist's Trust. The Trust has grown from
one nature reserve in 1962 to 42 nature reserves, 15,000 members and 35 staff
in 2007. More
