The Trust manages 40 nature reserves, which are mainly owned by us. Some are leased under agreements with landowners

 

There are more than 200,000 visitors to our reserves each year.

 

The reserves represent 1250 hectares of prime habitat managed for the benefit of wildlife.

 

We run 5 wildlife education centres around the county (Purbeck Marine Wildlife Reserve, Kingcombe Meadows, Lorton Meadows, Brownsea Island and Brooklands Farm).

 

We directly manage 23 Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

 

We advise on best management practices on the 1252 Sites of Nature Conservation Interest (SNCI) in Dorset.

 

Our membership has grown by 1/3 in both of the last two years to over 23,000 individuals.

 

The membership includes over 12,500 households.

 

There are also some 53 corporate members, 22 school members and 9 Wildlife Watch groups.

 

There are 8 local area groups and 600 active volunteers.

 

We have over 40 staff and 16 trustees that make up the Council.
