Assistant Conservation Officer

£15,554 plus 5% pension and staff benefits package.

Dorset Wildlife Trust is seeking an enthusiastic individual to work within our conservation team. The postholder will carry out a range of work, in particular providing advice to people managing small wildlife sites and to community-based projects. The work will be throughout rural Dorset, but focussed on the north and west of the county. Other work includes co-ordinating wildlife information provision and projects to achieve the Dorset Biodiversity Strategy.

We are looking for someone who is able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people to enable positive management of areas for wildlife. Experience of working with landowners and/or community groups in this respect is particularly useful. Other requirements include knowledge of natural history, habitat management techniques, species ecology and wildlife law.

Rebuilding Biodiversity Project Officer

£17,699 plus 5% pension and staff benefits package. Initially 12 month contract, extension possible subject to funding.

Dorset Wildlife Trust is seeking a dynamic individual to lead a new and exciting initiative for us. The postholder will co-ordinate and develop a series of projects to take forward a landscape-scale conservation approach in selected pilot areas in Dorset.

This is a high profile project which takes forward work developed by the South West Wildlife Trusts, in Dorset and works closely with partner organisations, as well as other DWT staff. Securing the support and participation of local communities, landowners, businesses and Local Authorities for this work is crucial and requires enthusiasm and excellent communication skills. An innovative approach will also be essential to explore funding and land management opportunities both within and outside of the traditional nature conservation sector.

Other requirements include project management, ability to negotiate positive outcomes and knowledge of natural history, biodiversity planning and land management. Experience of project delivery, landowner liaison and working with communities is desirable.
