Willow Pollards
Pollards are trees which have been traditionally cut about 2m above the
ground. For over 1000 years wood has been harvested in this way. These long-lived
trees are refuges rich in wildlife with dead wood habitats for scarce and
special fungi and insects. Work has been carried out to re-pollard the old
willows on King's Meads. The immediate effects are to give the trees new
vigour and stop them splitting apart or collapsing.
