By working with others it is possible not only to increase the range of activities possible but also to share resources and skills with others. The Sheffield Environment Forum, Park Users Forum and the Sheffield Wildlife Conservation Group are all comprised of groups and individuals keen to improve their local areas. Members range from local interest groups, the Sorby Natural History Society, Sheffield Wildlife Trust members to local authority representatives and together they deal with many different environmental issues. If you are working with others then it is possible to generate enthusiasm as well as many different ideas. The Sheffield Wildlife Conservation Group meets once every few months at the Town Hall for local wildlife group updates and to discuss planning
and development issues. The meeting now also deals with the Sheffield Biodiversity Action Plan process, allowing local people to contribute to plan development, to learn more about the process and to agree priorities for joint action. This meeting is open to all those interested in Sheffield’s Wildlife, making it an ideal forum for people to learn more and get involved. The Environment Forum is an association of voluntary groups, community groups and Sheffield City Council that promotes an exchange of views on issues of environmental concern and which enables a co-ordinated input from the voluntary and community sector to the council decision making process. The group is run by a small steering group of volunteers and holds open meetings at the Friend’s Meeting House approximately every two months. Its joint chairs are David grey from Heeley City Farm (see section 6.0.4.) and Karen McDowell from BTCV enterprises. The meetings deal with single subjects ranging from energy consumption to biodiversity action planning and land use planning.
