There will be a May Day Celebration at Ecclesfield Park between 11am and 3pm on Sunday 7th May. The event is being run by Sheffield Wildlife Trust as part of its Community Green Spaces Project and Wild Web 2000 initiative. It will feature well dressing, nature walks, a treasure hunt, environmental art and much more for the whole family to enjoy. Plans for the development of the park will also be displayed.

The well dressing, which will help to celebrate spring in Ecclesfield Park, will be made at the event to a design based on the winner of a competition which the Trust has run for the children of Ecclesfield and Coit Primary Schools. Well dressing is an ancient custom, found in and around the borders of Derbyshire, which involves decorating springs and wells using only natural materials. The finished well dressing will be presented to the winner’s school.

The results of the recent public consultation over the redevelopment of Ecclesfield Park will be displayed so that residents and park users can keep up-to-date with the plans. This event is being organised with the newly-formed Friends of Ecclesfield Park group, and is supported by the Hanson Environment Fund and the Environmental Action Fund.

Sheffield Wildlife Trust's Environmental Education Officer Katherine Packer explained:

"First and foremost the day will be about having fun, with a beautiful well dressing and some fantastic environmental art on show, as well as activities for children to get involved in. But it's also a chance for people who use the park, or would like to use it, to see what's being planned and get involved."

There will be opportunities for photographs and interviews between 1pm and 2pm.
