EcoRecord currently holds over 330,000 records for over 4,000 species. This database is held on the Joint Nature Conservation Committee's "Recorder" database, together with information describing over 500 conservation sites throughout the Black Country and Birmingham.
This information is only as good as the records supplied to the Records Centre. To this end, EcoRecord requires up-to-date records of plants and animals throughout the region. These records come from a wide variety of sources, including the local authorities, local nature conservation societies and the general public.
The supply of information is essential to the value of the Records Centre. If you want to send records in to EcoRecord, please include at least the following information:
In addition other information is always valuable in the later analysis of data; e.g. abundance, habitat, etc.
For larger comprehensive surveys within the area, EcoRecord can supply checklists of Vascular Plants; Birds; Other Vertebrates; Freshwater Life and "Popular" Insects free of charge together with a standard reporting form for describing the quality of a site, on condition that reports are copied to EcoRecord on completion.
